Here i'll explain step by step how to fix the problem with EEPROM of MSI TV@NYWHERE after using DSCALER 419. This is for you people whit broken dreams:)

STEP 1: Go to this link and download the first program: http://somepass.narod.ru/ms8606.html

STEP 2: Extract the file in directory "c:/test"

STEP 3: Rename the file from *ex_ to *exe (if you dont see the ex_ in the end of the name of the file go to your windows explorer, then in TOOLS/FOLDER OPTIONS/VIEW and uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types" - this is for winXP)

STEP 4: Open your command promt - START/PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/COMMAND PROMT

STEP 5: Write "cd test" in c:\

STEP 6: Write "ms-8606rest.exe" in "c:/test>" and press enter

THAT'S ALL:)))

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU MUST PERFORM THE WHOLE OPERATION WHITH INSTALLED DSCALER 419 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SPECIAL THANKS TO ANGEL99:)

Thanks for posting this, does this fix work in all regions or just a specific one?

John:
Radop may know more about this but my understanding is based on the developer mail in the Sourceforge DScaler forum.
The utility I think is the one that Midimaker developed at the end of Feb. (that is the date on the executable). Although I have read reports by some members of this forum that the utility worked for them, one of the members at SF reported that the utility did not work for their tuner with the CX23883-19 version of the chip.
I concur. I have the same chip in my TV @nywhere Master tuner card and applying the patch resolved the issue of the DScaler EEPROM corruption causing the card not to be recognized by the tuner driver (and therefore WDM programs can't configure the card or autoscan channels). (By the way, this symptom is not mentioned in SF mail.)
After the patch is applied on this particular chip, the tuner driver recognizes the card, and WDM dependent programs are again able to configure the card and autoscan channels. However, there remains a problem with the audio ... there is no audio just some clicking. This is the symptom most often referred to in the SF mail relating to the EEPROM corruption.
The patch does not appear to be permanent. I have run several tests and performed EEPROM dumps after each, and at some point after running DScaler 4.1.9 or MSIPVS (WinDvr 2, program packaged with card), the EEPROM is again changed, and the card no longer functions normally. I have been working with Torsten to help him resolve DScaler audio issues with the MSI card, and have been using his DScaler code.
The impression I got from the SF forum was that Midimaker was getting a card from MSI and was going to update the utility to patch all versions of the CX chip. But since that post, the EEPROM issue seems to have gone below the radar at SF. I am a member of the MSI forum and a number of people have reported similar problems after running DScaler and are anxious for a resolution. They have offered to help in testing any program he develops. I am available also for testing. It is just not too clear how we could communicate our offer. I do not have access to the developer mail at SF and although I have Midimaker's e-mail address, I am aware that he prefers not to have direct com throu e-mail. I have given some of my info to Torsten, who has offered to help, but I'm afraid I might divert his focus from his primary work with DScaler.

Especially for this case i've checked the version of chip of my tuner and it's CX23883-19. I have to say that my tvtuner works even better after fixing the eeprom. JohnAd, i thing that this fix will work in all locations. Befor i fixed it, i have onli 1 region to choose - Afganistan. Now i can choose every region, i want, and the tuner is working super. I have to say, that you mast do the whole operation with istalled DSCALER 419 (couse dscaler use temporarily drivers, NECESSARY for fixing the eeprome), but after that you mast deinstall dscaler 419 and DO NOT USE THIS VERSION OF DSCALER AGAIN!
Success!

Radop:

Is your bundled software working after DS? Or must you reflash your eeprom every time you use DS?

I dont know. Like i said i have not use DSCler again, after EEPROM Flash. My bundled software is working perfect, and winamp plug in 1.6 is working too.

Could you post the version of Connexant chip you have. The version is printed on the chip.
I have the CX23883-19. I have applied the patch and have recovered the ability to configure the card and autotune channels. I get video but only clicking in audio.
Does anyone in the forum know of a utility which shows the chip version? The only other alternative is to open computer and pull out card because once the card is inserted in PCI slot, the chip is on the bottom of the card and difficult to see..

As i already said, my chip is the same as yours. I checked it. Try to select another region (Germany for example) and that may be fix the problem with your sound.

Sorry. I reread your previous post and saw that you had already identified you chip.
This is really strange. That means I ran the same program to fix EEPROM, set configuration to Canada in MSIPVS (WinDvr 2), and get picture, channels, but no audio. I don't think I can select Germany as my location because in Canada we use NTSC-M, not PAL.
You mentioned using the WinAmp plug-in. I think I have that installed and will try it. You said your bundled software was working also. Is your bundled software the same as it is in Canada? MSIPVS (WinDvr 2)?

Yes, my software is MSIPVS. Try to select another country with tvsistem like yours in Canada.

Thank you for that suggestion. It reminded me that before my EEPROM was corrupted, I had run into Intervideo programs (WindDvr 3, Home Theatre) having problems with setting location as Canada. WinDvr 3 and Home Theatre would only work if I set location to United States. Unfortunately, when I initially installed the card, I had no problem configuring MSIPVS for Canada. To confirm this, I tried setting location to United States, and that didn't bring the sound back. But I am going to play around with that thought a bit. Maybe I have to uninstall MSIPVS, make sure all configuration files are deleted, and then reinstall.
My other theory is that maybe the EEPROM corruption has different symptoms in countries using PAL, than countries that use NTSC.

I have CX23881-19 on my chip (weird... is that 1-19??)

and i have applied the patch described above, i can change country now, and I can tune channels, but i get no sound.

I should use PAL D/K....

I tried to use MSIPVS, WINAMP TV, but without any sound...

Now I am thoroughly confused. Does this mean that after using this patch you can then watch cable through your CX23883-19 chipped tuner card? Or does it just revert to allowing you to watch TV though the earial or VCR outputs etc. If it allows cable then, this goes in the face of other reports that insist you have to have a BT878 or similar BT8X8 chipset when using DScalar. The Connexion Chip (according to their website is a Capture Chip Set and not the tuner part of cards featuring the BT878 chipset.

If the CX23883-19 is working with Dscalar, dare I ask if anyone has gotten an ATI All in one 8500DV working with cable? It doesn't have the BT878 Chipset either.

Thanks for the info guys. My card should arrive tomorrow and I'll try and work out what's going on.

Cheers

The symptoms you have are the same as mine. So there goes the theory about this being restricted to NSTSC.

I think that there are two issues at work here.

The reason that programs using the WDM driver (MSIPVS, WINAMP, etc.) have a problem is because of the EEPROM corruption. A fully corrupt EEPROM causes the tuner driver not to communicate with the card properly (e.g. CXTUNER errors in WinXP System event viewer) as a result the program cannot configure the card at all, most programs don't even see the tuner. After applying the patch, the WDM driver is somewhat happy. The WDM programs can now configure their cable source, location, autoscan etc. but for some like me and you who are using the CX23881-19 chip, the sound doesn't work. That is why Radop's post is interesting. He says he has the same chip but has no sound problem with WDM programs after the flash.

The DScaler sound not working is a different issue I think. I assume that you are talking about DScaler 4.1.9 alpha (beta?). DScaler 4.1.8 did not have any MSI TV @nywhere Master support. Not for the CX23881 decoder nor the MT2050 tuner. The original version of 4.1.9 that I had downloaded had video and could scan/change channels but had no audio. This was due to the tuner settings not being correct. This was fixed with a download of an updated DScaler that I received from one of the developers. This time the audio worked briefly (under a second) and then was muted by some non-DScaler software (the tuner driver I think). A change to the DScaler program settings resolved that issue by DScaler "stopping" the Connexant driver at start and then "restarting" the Connexant driver when Dscaler stops. Depending on what part of the development cycle your DScaler version is in, your reason for not hearing sound is different.

Because of the EEPROM corruption, the DScaler sound availability is not permanent. Tests that I have done show, that with a current version of DScaler 4.1.9, the EEPROM corruption is evident after the second start of DScaler, after which the tuner driver no longer can be "stopped" and "restarted" and therefore DScaler has no sound until the card is flashed again.
