Chiming in to say I use it occasionally. I've increased in skill at my main video game (beatmania IIDX) to where the display lag in DScaler is enough to worsen my scores (before I was so unskilled that having a lagless display (CRT SDTV) wouldn't help my scores). So anyway I use it from time to time on my desktop when I really want to multitask, and want to game from my PS2 (ignoring the lag).
I've learned a lot about deinterlacing from DScaler, either directly for some topics or at least set on a path to learn about other topics (stemming from something DScaler related), and it's really come in handy
(As an aside, for those with modded PS2s, these days there's a nifty program called GSModeSelector that can output a VGA SOG signal from a PS2 game, unfortunately using any of GSModeSelector's modes will cause game-breaking glitches in beatmania IIDX so I am forced to use it through a capture card while at my desktop.)

Thanks everybody who's replied so far.
I wasn't really aware of the gaming uses, the low lag and ability to record seem important here.

| Hey just FYI I reread my above post and realize I had a typo, when I said "and want to game from my PS2 without lag." I had meant to say something to the effect without caring about the amount of lag. I've updated my original post. |

I not use it anymore. Since I brought new tuner card, I can't use DScaler.
Actually I now use WMC, but there is only one feature I like in it: I can stop the program, and later continue (actually isn't it in DScaler also? O_o). In every other aspect the DScaler was way better.
If it could handle new tuner cards, and would mix well with Win7, I would use it again. |

I still use it with Win 7 x64 and an ATI TV Wonder Pro. I use it because it is fast, low profile and easy to just watch TV.
I use it with analog Cable. I could connect digital cable to my computer, but I like not having to use an IR-Blaster, just simple mouse wheel.
My only real issues at this point is that it doens't work so well with my "Line-In", I have to use system mixer.
Also, I get a memory error if I start the program, close it, and try to run it some point in the future:
"Can't create Display Memory
File .\CX2388XProvider.cpp Line 136"
Otherwise, it has been consistenty good. |

I still have analog cable TV and 2 machines with old prolink bt878 tuners
More or less using it every day!
All is working great, only the 'display memory' issue is coming from time to time on the Win7/x64 box... |

Just thought I would pop in and say thankyou for Dscaler, which has been in daily use for several years until they turned off the last analogue transmitter earlier this month.
I now have an Artec USB gizmo which might or might not be OK but the ArcSoft software supplied with it is dire ! |

I'd really love to still use Dscaler, but when I bought new hardware, dscaler just won't start anymore.
I've tried with my old TV Card which worked perfectly on my old hardware, but it seems to be incompatible with the new hardware I have.
In Germany we already have digital TV besides analogue , but you have to extra pay for it.
Dscaler was the best program for analogue Tv I knew, Windows Media Center is just crap... |

I started using Dscaler v4.1.15 with my laptop, Dell D620 (IBM 950 video chipset)and a Happage usb WinTV-HVR-950Q after the wintv7 software stopped working - I originally dl'ed it just to confirm the tuner card was working and was blown away by the difference in screen quality.
I use the composite input to connect my sony PS3 thru the tuner dongle, and that is where the the difference is the biggest - the lag is gone, and the image quality approaches my flat screen 1080p - on a 1200x1600 pc monitor.
I've deleted the Wintv7 software, and look forward to tweaking the interface - I'm sure I will break it 1/2 doz times before I"m set.
Cheers and thanks!

I use Dscaler almost daily!
I use a Pixelview Play TV Pro card to watch television using composite video and external audio (rca composite patch cable to sound card line-in). And I capture stills and videos from an old webcam (dshow source) for use as a weather webcam. And for film school work, using a WinTV-d card, I teach people how to connect, configure, and record their movies from a Hi8 camera using s-video and external audio (patch cable to sound card line-in).

Fellow gamer here!
Registered to mention that I've been using DScaler for about 8 or 9 years pretty much exclusively for playing videogames. Configuring the program was always a bit of a headache, but it provided the single best solution for playing my PS2, N64, Dreamcast, Xbox, and Gamecube games at a time when I lived in an apartment too small to keep a tv in.
I've since bought a house and a nice, large tv. Emulation has advanced far enough for most of those systems to where I'm able to get by without having to use the capture card anymore, but it's still an invaluable little tool for the instances where the games aren't emulated yet (especially a problem with Xbox and N64 games). Hell, I left it in my old PC that I went on to hook up to the TV and I still route my older consoles through it. Now when I'm recording game footage or grabbing screenshots, I'm doing it in my living room from the comfort of my couch.
Despite some of the headaches I've had getting it to work at times (captured more than a few lengthy gameplay videos only to realize that it didn't grab the audio for some reason), I love the program to bits and never hesitate to recommend it to someone looking for a quality solution for playing their non-HD consoles on their PC. Hopefully some of the problems that Vista induced will get tackled by knowledgeable volunteers (I would love to help, but I can program about as well as I can compete in the Tour de France).
Something that may appeal to the shoot 'em up community is the ability to rotate the display in 90 degree increments. Normally they have to flip their monitors (or buy LCDs that rotate), but if DScaler could rotate and scale while maintaining the proper aspect ratio (pillarbox on a 4:3 and 5:4) then it would give them the ability to record full resolution 3:4 videos without having to fiddle with their physical desktops. That said, the community is pretty niche and the current solution is to do it through the video card's configuration program, so the affected audience for something like that would be pretty small now a days.
All the same, thanks a ton for the excellent piece of free software that I've gotten (judging by my profile on howlongtobeat) well over a thousand hours of active use out of! |

We have been using DScaler for quite some years now and still using it every day!
We're watching digital/HD TV in the living room, but the rest of the house has an analog (cable) signal, which, I guess, is typical for Dutch households. The PC in the kitchen has an old TV card and we're using that on a daily basis.
Since 4.2.2, and the migration to another PC, DScaler is not as stable as before, so maybe I should try downgrading to a previous version.
Anyway, thanks a lot for building and maintaining DScaler. Really appreciate! |

Hello John,
I am using DScaler 4.1.15 on windows XP (32 bits) for many years.
It is stable, good quality, and fast.
Now I want to migrate to Windows 7 (64 bits).
And I was looking for a driver for the MIRO (Pinnacle) PCTV Rave card
And I came on this site to see what is available
Regards,
Gerrit |

Use it every day to watch analog TV. Simple remote control support via Eventghost.
Great app, thank you! |
