DerGolgo,
The error number means: DDERR_INVALIDPIXELFORMAT
Did you try updating the drivers of your video card? |

Sorry for my english... writing from Italy...
I had overlay creation error in my PC when starting Dscaler too...
I did try every procedure I know to fix the issue, reinstalling grafic card drivers, checking AGP bus BIOS settings ecc...
After some hours I found that the problem was fixed SIMPLY reinstalling the AGP drivers of my mobo, ie VIA Hyperion 4.53. I think windows XP lost some registry key or something similar... maybe this will be useful...

That's what I get when I try to start DScaler. But I'm pretty sure that NVidia Aladdin TNT2 (integrated on the motherboard )does support it, at least I think that I can make WinTV use it. And I have "Enable overlays" option in "OpenGL Settings" somewhere under the display properties.
So what bugs me - does DScaler really try to open overlay mode or maybe it only ckecks its possibly incomplete hardware list and quits beore trying? |

Dscaler only reports an error if the drivers of your video card report that an overlay is not possible or if an error occurs when allocating the overlay.
I think WinTV is able to run without an overlay. |

It is.
And wintv's utility that tests directdraw capabilities of the video card reports that it "seems to support overlay". Maybe I'll try with less color depth. |

| I have a video card that does not support Overlays. Please what graphic cards do so I can Buy it? I have been getting: Your video card does not support overlays. Also here is a tough question- I am using an ATI TV Tuner which is not working too well with Dscaler. I also have a WINTV but it is external. Question-Why don't external work with Dscaler? |

Got the same problem with starting Dscaler.Says Can't create overlay, file name is other.cpp on line 1662.
I tried to set the backbuffer to 0 and enabled all the directx features, still doesn't work. The version of Dscaler is the latest (4111, if i'm not wrong).
Any advice?
OR, do you know any other program that would work with a PV 951 TV tuner (+FM)?
Thanks a lot! |

I might be wrong, but I am getting this error when I disable hardware acceleration on my videocard.
What kind of video cards (aka GPU) do you have that you run into this problem? |

This makes DScaler unusable in windows Vista.
The GUI uses the overlay already |

This is the error I get:
060103 041437.922(932) ErrorBox File:C:\Source\deinterlace\DScalerBuild418\DScaler\DScaler\Other.cpp line: 1620 Message: Can't Use Overlay
I'm running Nt4 with service pack 6. I haven't found any updates to the DirectX i've got. I saw on the main page for dscaler.org that they mention a hacked version of dx5 but I haven't found any other mention of it yet.
Do you know if I need that for sure? I tried with 64K colors @ 640x480, but still no go...
Any ideas?

Tim,
Maybe the drivers of the video card you use do not support an overlay? Maybe you can find other drivers? (note I am talking about the video card, not capture card) |

I've a right brain scratcher here that's been driving me nuts for a good two days, including a full system re-install this morning.
I'm running a P3 700, 512mb Ram, Riva TNT2 64, Win98SE
The video card is an Askew CPH06X.
I initialy had it using the manufacturors software (TView99 vers 4.24) which worked brilliant for tuning etc and changing zones (NTSC, PAL-I, PAL-N etc) but found that the software didn't support Pal 60Hz. This was infuriating as it meant I couldn't play Jap import games on my Dreamcast nor certain games for the Game-cube. Anyway, after much searching online, I found DScaler.
Having installed it, it worked PERFECTLY the first time, you should've seen my grin. Pal 60hz option was a god-send and the automatic switching/detection of signal was even better to avoid the fuss of switching it myself.......How-ever....
After restarting my PC, it came up with the error message:
"Your video card doesn't appear to support overlays, which DScaler requires"
Then it closed itself. I found this odd as it'd just been working a moment ago and sound was still coming through the speakers. Leaving it alone, I figured it was just a one off and reset the PC twice just to make sure.
Starting it up again, it worked once more, perfectly again, full screen mode and everything (1280*1024 @ 32bit) but alas, after another reset, it came up with the same message.
Figured it was just a case of resetting the PC twice to clear any buffers properly or what-ever, and it still didn't come back. For some reason, it has a mind of it's own when it wants to work.
The following message showed up in the DScaler window after I'd tried loading it 3 or 4 times in the same sitting (aswell as the usual "Your video card doesn't..." with the OK button)
ERROR: Can't create Display Memory
:\Source\deinterlace\DScalerBuild4111\DScaler\DScaler\BT848Provider.cpp Line 244
Please, there's gotta be a reason that it works one minute and not the other, I've not changed anything in the settings between the times it's worked and not worked nor infact anything on the PC.
All I wanna do is have Pal60Hz available aswell as the usual.
HELP!?!? |
