|
|
Hello all,
Im with the IT support crew for a government department, we recently rolled out the Dscaler5 decoder to several hundred PC's (running windows XP), however we're finding that non administrative users (the bulk of our users) who try to play DVD's, arent able to as no decoder is detected (via windows media player for instance)...
however - users with admin rights can play DVD's as it detects the Dscaler decoder.
We've tried giving all users full modify rights to the dscaler folder in program files, this hasnt helped..
How can we resolve this issue for our non admin users? Where does Dscaler need to write to or modify in order to run correctly?
Cheers. |

Firstly Wow! Can you reveal which government?
On your probelm, I can't think of any thing that the codec need once installed that requires any previleges. The user settings are stored under
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\DScaler5 and the key is created if not present, maybe it is the permissions of HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ that is the problem? Apart from that I can't think of anything.
Can you try and play back an mpeg2 file in graphedit (from the platform sdk) as a user and let me know the error you get.
