| They are only DirectShow filters, so you can use a program like a DVD player for example, which allow you to choose the video and audio decoder. |

It "will" be update to DScaler4. Difference is the player UI is dropped, so you can use any player you like.
Do you remember DivX used to come with a DivX player? Now just about anything can play DivX, because the APIs are there and stable enough to do it with just the Codec installed.
DScaler5 is like that.
(please feel free to correct this simplified example Gurus)
Could/Should MPC classic be packaged with it as a good example that could make documenting features easier for people who "don't get it"?... Just a thought. |

A big issue with this:
DScaler 4 is a Television program for many people. They don't use it for DirectShow filters or anything else, but just for TV viewing.
DScaler 5 is just filters. No TV program.
DScaler 4 WAS the main program for people. Using other programs does nothing since most media players don't TUNE TELEVISION. |

Yes, this is my issue too. I used to use DScaler 4 to use my analog tuner card, but had to move on to another solution when I went digital as DScaler does not support (AFAIK) BDA based cards.
Instead I know use Digital Watch which is a no-frills tuner-only software without decoders and is much better than the bundled rubbish you find with tuner cards. For decoders I use the Cyberlink7 video decoder and the AC3 filter for audio.
As this program does allow you to select filters, it may be worth trying the DScaler5 filter with it.
To reiterate what was said above, I do think it would be expected by users that V5 would offer at least the same tuner control capabilities as V4 (ie. a "main" program), if that is within the scope of this project. |
